Outside Awnings: What Fabric is Used to Make Them?

When it comes to awnings, there are two elements of the design that are most important to homeowners.

Firstly, you’ll want them to last a long time – obviously. Secondly, you’ll want the awning to blend effortlessly into the style and decor of your home.

The best awnings achieve both of these things; they don’t stick out like a sore thumb and are both elegant and functional.

There’s one thing that holds this all together – literally: the fabric.

The fabric used by awnings

There are usually two types of fabric to choose from when you purchase a new awning for your home:

  1. acrylic; and

  2. polyester.

Both of these fabrics are spinneret dyed. This means they’ll last many years (if looked after properly), but also offer brilliant UV resistance and the ability to paint the awning pretty much any colour of your choosing.

This means you can match the awning to the exact style and colour of your home – or go crazy and have something that really stands out or is personalised.

Smart fabric

The acrylic and polyester fabric used in modern awning construction are smart, too.

Thanks to an ingenious fabric coating and state-of-the-art nano technology, this fabric is resistant to water, oil, and dirt. They can even prevent rot, too.

It’s worth mentioning the UPF rating, also, which dictates how well an awning will protect you from the sun’s harmful rays. Opt for a brand like Weinor, and you’ll have the ultimate peace of mind on that front.

Is awning fabric environmentally-friendly?

Indeed it is! There are no substances within the fabric that are harmful either to yourself or the environment.

As you’d expect, it meets all the latest environmental standards, which means you can rest safe in the knowledge that your lovely new awning is doing its bit for the planet, too.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that Weinor awnings are now available in material that is 80% made from recycled plastic.

There’s a neat way to illustrate this. If you need 12 meters of fabric for your awning, it’ll be made from around 187 plastic bottles that may otherwise have been left in landfill – or worse. How great is that?!

Can I add colour to my awning fabric?

Absolutely! As mentioned earlier, the type of fabric that’s now used for awnings can be made in pretty much any colour of your choosing.

That’s right – you can choose any colour for the fabric on your awning. Match it with the 47 standard RAL colours available for the rest of the awning’s construction, and you’re left with something that is entirely unique for your home.

So, whether you want an understated awning that blends effortlessly into your home, or one that stands out, you can choose the exact combination of colours that floats your boat.
